Many cities are deciding on whether or not door to door trick-or-treating should be banned this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. While many place have decided that it's just strongly encouraged NOT to go trick-or-treating, Beverly Hills has made their official decision. Beverly Hills has approved an urgency ordinance banning trick-or-treating on Halloween due to the pandemic. The ordinance was approved by the city council, which prohibits house-to-house and car-to-car trick-or-treating from taking place on Halloween. You also won't be able to pass out candy, treats or toys to anyone outside of your household. The ordinance also bans praying shaving cream on others, except those within their home or licensed barbers on their customers. According to Mayor Lester Friedman, "While I know this is disappointing news, especially to our children, we believe this is the responsible approach to protect the health of the community. If you don't follow the restrictions, you will be cited. The details regarding fines or other penalties were not disclosed.
Beverly Hills will close the following streets to non-resident pedestrians and vehicles from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Halloween with parking restrictions enforced:
- Carmelita Avenue at Wilshire Boulevard
- Walden Drive Southbound at Elevado Avenue
- Walden Drive at Santa Monica Boulevard
- Carmelita Westbound at North Linden Drive
- An alley between North Linden Drive and Walden Drive from Santa Monica Boulevard to Elevado Avenue
