This Might Be What The Future of Airports Will Look like!

The coronavirus pandemic has caused us to be more cautious and aware of high-touch surfaces wherever we are especially in the airport. When you're traveling, you have to go through many steps and now Matthew Johnson, who helped spearhead the ongoing $14 billion renovationof LAX, is talking about the future of airports. He says that airports could follow the model of casinos by combining eye-in-the-sky surveillance with state-of-the-art sensors like the “smart tunnel” at Dubai International that verifies your identity by scanning you as you walk through it. The airline apps will get rid of touch screens along with the plans for touchless kiosks that print baggage tags when you scan your phone. There will also be QR code boarding passes and self-drop luggage stations so the check-in process is on it's way to be fully digital.

The next stop is security and some airports like at Hong Kong International, passengers tap passports to unlock security barriers, scan their boarding pass, and have their photo snapped for identity verification at an electronic terminal. At JFK an artificial intelligence platform called SafeDistance is using cameras to monitor for congestion. Cathay Pacific Ltd. is working in collaboration with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to bring automated boarding gates to LAX and San Francisco International. They'll scan your face and biometrically verify your identity so you'll be able to get on the plane without having to give your ticket or passport.

What do you think about all of this?
