HBO is bringing True Detective back for a fourth season. The prestige anthology crime drama has found its new lead detectives in Jodie Foster and boxer/actress Kali Reis, a new creative lead, and an icy new setting.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, critically acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Issa López is taking over as lead writer-producer for True Detective: Night Country. The story this time will focus on a criminal investigation in the frozen wilds of Alaska. HBO's official synopsis describes the plot as follows:
When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.
The series has had its ups and downs with audience and critical reception. The first season with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson got rave reviews and was a massive hit with viewers. The second and third seasons were not as universally loved, but are definitely worth your time. Below are the trailers for the first three seasons, plus a look at Kali Reis in action in the ring.
