Luis Troyano, 'Great British Bake Off' Finalist, Dead At 48

Luis Troyano, one of the finalists of The Great British Bake Off, has died. He was 48.

Troyano’s publicist, Anne Kibel, confirmed the star died following his battle with cancer in a statement shared on social media Tuesday (November 3).

"Sadly, my lovely client lost his brave fight against Oesophageal cancer last week," Kibel tweeted. "A fantastic man with a love of baking that saw him get to the finals of GBBO, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great, and do so much more. Always in our thoughts."

His wife, Louise, also paid tribute to her husband on the JustGiving page she started in his honor to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure x,” Louise wrote on the page. “This page has been set up for Macmillan Cancer Support but in truth, Luis gave a big thank you to everyone involved in his care.”

Troyano rose to popularity during on the British baking competition show’s 2014 season alongside fellow runner-up Richard Burr, who also paid remembrance to the departed star.

"I am so sad to have lost Luis," Burr shared. "He was a man who took a double helping of everything life had to offer. Fearless, friendly, and cheerfully grumpy. I will miss him."

“We are deeply saddened to hear that Luis Troyano has passed away. It was a huge honour and pleasure to have him in the Bake Off Tent for Series Five,” read a statement from the GBBO show’s official Twitter. “Our condolences and thoughts go out to his friends and family.”

As fans know, the Bake It Great author made it to the show’s finale, though he ultimately lost to contestant Nancy Birtwhistle.
