Kelly Clarkson Recalls Being Mistaken For Fellow American Idol Alum Carrie Underwood Kelly Clarkson shared an embarrassing moment on her daytime talk show. Clarkson was joined by guest Cheryl Hines and Michelle Buteau as they answered questions for her segment, “I’m Awesome At Being Awkward.” Clarkson says she was one time approached by a fan who mistook her for Carrie Underwood. "This girl came up to me and was like, 'Oh my god, your song 'So Small' is one of my favorites.' And I kept thinking, 'I don't have a song 'So Small.' And then she said another song and I was like, 'Oh, you think I'm Carrie Underwood,'" Even though Clarkson thinks she and Carrie look nothing alike, she didn’t want to disappoint the fan so when she was asked to sign something for the fan Clarkson says, “I totally signed 'Carrie Underwood.' I think that might be illegal!" Both of the singers were winners on American Idol, with Clarkson being the first American Idol, Underwood followed three years later.
