Idaho Senator Proposes Making All Street Drugs Legal

An Idaho senator has proposed legislation that seeks to decriminalize the use of illegal drugs -- and law enforcement officials don't like it one bit.

On Tuesday, the Idaho Fraternal Order of Police, the Idaho Chiefs of Police Association, the Idaho Prosecuting Attorneys Association and the Idaho Sheriff's Association teamed up to officially denounce the bill, which was authored by Democratic Senator Grant Burgoyne. They say making it legal to possess usable amounts of heroin, cocaine, meth and fentanyl will do nothing but lead to trouble.

However, Burgoyne says the purpose of the bill is to shift the focus to treatment instead of on going to jail. "What we're currently doing is not working," he says.
